SAFETY

Zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material.

SuperSend is for sending files to people you know. If anyone uses it to share child sexual abuse material, we close their links, ban them, and report them to the National Crime Agency.

WHEN SOMETHING IS REPORTED

Closed first. Then dealt with.

  1. Someone reports it

Every download page has a Report link, and so does this site's footer. Nobody has to describe or attach the material.

  2. The link closes

A report of child sexual abuse material closes the link straight away, for everyone, including any download in progress.

  3. We act on the record

We look at who sent it, when and from where. Nobody at Super Basic ever opens the files: that would itself be a crime.

  4. We report it

We suspend or ban the account, can block it from paying again, and report to the National Crime Agency, as the law requires.

WHAT WE RECORD

We can't see the files. We can see who sent them.

WE RECORD

  • Who opened a send: their account, if they have one
  • The IP address and browser of the sender and of everyone who joins
  • When it happened, how big the send said it was, and how many files
  • How many people a link allowed, and every person who downloaded

WE CAN'T SEE

  • What is inside a direct transfer: it goes straight from one device to another, encrypted
  • File names or contents of a direct transfer, at any point
  • Anything after a direct transfer ends: nothing is kept on our side

Questions

Why don't you scan the files?

Because we can't see them. A direct send goes from one device to the other, encrypted end to end. If a network blocks that, Basic and Super pass the still-encrypted data through a relay, which can't read it and keeps nothing. So the files never reach us in a form anyone could open. Instead, we make every send traceable, keep the records, close links the moment they're reported, and report to the authorities.

Who can send to more than one person?

Only people with a Super Basic account. Without an account, a link works once, for one person. New accounts get smaller links for their first week: at most 10 downloads a link and 3 links open at once.

How long do you keep the records?

36 months, then they are deleted automatically. Records connected with a report or a police case are kept until it is closed. They are kept in a separate, locked-down database that no other part of Super Basic can read, and SuperSend itself can only add to them, never read, change or delete them.

Who sees the records?

Only the two people who run Super Basic, and the National Crime Agency, the police or a court when the law requires it. Section 3.12 of the Privacy Notice on superbasic.net has the details.

What happens to an account that's reported?

It can be suspended while we look into it, or banned. Either way its open links close at once and it can't send again. A banned person's card and email can be blocked from paying for any Super Basic app, and their IP addresses from sending for a time.
